HISTORY OF HONYAMA
Honyama holds a special place in the history of Japanese tea culture. Approximately 800 years ago, a Japanese monk named Seiichi Kokushi returned from China with tea seeds and planted them in this very area. Ever since, Honyama has flourished as the birthplace of a tea-centered culture in Japan. Similar to other world-renowned tea-growing regions like Darjeeling and Assam, our region in Japan offers the optimal conditions for tea cultivation, including a mountainous location at a high elevation, a significant temperature difference between morning and evening, and the presence of beautiful rivers and fog.
