Matcha White Chocolate Cookie Recipe

Step 1: Gather and Prepare

Gather all the ingredients and make sure you have everything you need before starting the baking process. Preheat the oven to 350°F/175°C and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Step 2: Sift dry ingredients together

In a medium-sized bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt. Sifting helps remove lumps and aerates the dry ingredients, resulting in a smoother cookie dough.


Step 3: Cream and Blend

Using an electric mixer, beat together the brown sugar, softened butter, and white sugar.  Beat until the mixture is well blended and creamy. Add the vanilla extract, egg, and the extra egg yolk to the creamed butter and sugar mixture. Continue to beat with the electric mixer until the wet ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture becomes light and creamy.


Step 4: Mix in the Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the sifted flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture. Use a spatula or a wooden spoon to fold in the dry ingredients until the dough is just blended. Be careful not to overmix, as overmixing can result in tough cookies.


Step 5: Fold in the White Chocolate Chunks (or Chips)

Now, fold in the white chocolate chunks or chips into the cookie dough using a wooden spoon. Ensure that the white chocolate is evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Using a heaping tablespoon of cookie dough per cookie, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving 2 to 3 inches of space between each cookie. This ensures that the cookies have enough room to spread during baking.


Step 7: Bake

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. The center of the cookies may still appear slightly soft, but they will continue to firm up as they cool.

After the initial cooling period, transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. This allows the cookies to firm up and develop a chewy texture.
